immune boosting drinks

With winter and COVID, now more than ever is the time to hydrate and arm yourself with immune boosting beverages. Here are a couple of my favorite.

Sunshine Immunity Smoothie by Angela Liddon

Vitamin C, ginger and cayenne are three foods that boost our immunity. The lemon and ginger make this smoothie tangy while the cayenne pepper adds a nice kick. Fresh oranges can be replaced by store bought orange juice. I make a batch and keep it in the fridge for a couple of days.

2 medium seedless naval oranges, peeled

2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice, or to taste

1 teaspoon grated peeled fresh ginger or to taste

1 to 3 tablespoons pure maple syrup, to taste

3 to 5 ice cubes

Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Creating the Magic!

In a high-speed blender, combine of all of the ingredients and blend until smooth. Drink and enjoy. Sprinkle with cayenne pepper to taste! If you don’t like the pulp then feel free to put through a sieve before drinking. Or you could opt to juice everything if you have a juicer.

Golden Milk

Golden milk is a combination of milk, turmeric and spices. It is a great alternative option to coffee. I love drinking golden milk in the late afternoon when I want something warm and soothing but don’t need a caffeine hit. Turmeric is one of the most powerful natural anti-inflammatory foods identified today. In addition, the compound known as curcumin (which is found in turmeric), contains antimicrobial properties and can help to ward off illness. Note: To be assimilated into the body, turmeric must be mixed with black pepper.

Ingredients

2 cups milk (I love oat milk)

1 teaspoon ground turmeric

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Honey to taste

Dash of black pepper

Creating the Magic!

Put everything in a saucepan and heat until warm. Enjoy!
